Project Case: Complete Housing Components for Intelligent Service Robot

1. Project Overview

The client develops commercial intelligent interactive service robots for education companion and lobby reception scenarios. They required a full set of robot plastic housings, including main body shell, spherical head enclosure, facial decorative cover, internal mounting brackets and other structural parts for complete robot assembly.
We delivered a one-stop solution covering mold development, precision injection molding and surface coating, supplying finished plastic components ready for direct assembly.

2. Key Technical Challenges

  1. Strict A-class surface requirements

The main shell adopts matte white finish with smooth continuous curved surfaces. No sink marks, weld lines, scratches or color deviation are allowed. The black head visor requires high-gloss finish to achieve consistent premium two-tone appearance.

  2. High assembly precision

Tight dimensional tolerances are required for rotating fit between spherical head and main body, screen frame, speaker openings and camera cutouts. Uniform assembly gaps and interchangeability among all matched components are mandatory.

  3. Coordinated mass production of multiple parts

The project involves a series of separate parts which demand synchronized production schedule and unified surface treatment standards to support full-kit delivery.

  4. Flexible production volume

Small-batch trial production for assembly verification at the initial stage, followed by stable mass production. The solution supports both prototype validation and large-volume manufacturing.

3. Our Solution

3.1 Mold Design & Fabrication

Precision injection molds are customized for complex curved robot housings. Optimized gating system eliminates common defects such as sink marks and warpage on large curved shells. Built-in positioning structures ensure consistent assembly accuracy across all matching components.

3.2 Material Selection

Main housing material: High-toughness ABS with good impact resistance and coating performance, suitable for indoor service robots. PC/ABS alloy is available as an upgrade option for enhanced heat resistance and structural strength.

3.3 Precision Injection Molding

High-precision injection machines are deployed with stable molding parameters to minimize shell warpage. Strict full visual inspection is implemented to guarantee flawless curved exterior surfaces.

3.4 Surface Finishing

  • Main housing: Matte white PU coating, soft touch, scratch-resistant
  • Head visor cover: High-gloss black coating

Uniform color standard is enforced across all coated components.

3.5 Full-kit Component Delivery

All parts including main body, head shell, decorative covers and internal brackets are produced, inspected and packaged as complete kits. Customers can directly proceed with robot assembly without coordinating multiple suppliers.

4. Project Achievements

✅ Successful mass delivery of complete robot housing sets with even assembly gaps and smooth rotation of the head mechanism

✅ Matte white & high-gloss black appearance meets client design specifications and passed final visual acceptance

✅ One-stop service from mold manufacturing, injection molding, surface coating to full-kit shipment streamlines the client’s supply chain

✅ Supports future model modification and repeated mass production, establishing long-term component supply cooperation

5. Extended Services Available
